Black Pope
— Live at Tetris
Poster ✓
The poster I designed for the Black Pope — a rock metal band from Trieste (Italy) — concert at Tetris club is only apparently a poster for an ‘obscure event’. In fact, the band’s music is a pure powerful and visceral grind-rock, but their lyrics are purely ironic and playful exactly on the theme of the gloomy iconographies of the heavy metal scene. A funny slogan could describe the Black Pope perfectly: ‘Extreme Music for Extreme Unction’. This ‘Tenacious D’ meet ‘Mayhem’ meet ‘Benny Hill’ attitude is summed up in this poster: a deep dark image, a gothic type, black and purple mystical colors, a reversed cross (realized in a playful way with the Tetris club made-of-squares logo) could make you think of a satanic scenario, but it is all a matter of imagination and , after all, it is just a shadow game of communication perspectives. A ‘surprising’ poster for a ‘surprising’ rock band, of course.
